The west is not a place; it’s a state of mind.
– “Papa Jack” Weil, the world’s oldest CEO.
Rockmount Ranch Wear is the last remaining Western shirtmaker of the early companies. The company began in 1946 with the signature “sawtooth pocket” and “diamond snap” shirt designed by “Papa Jack” Weil. This is the longest running shirt design in America, Western or otherwise. Rockmount is a three-generation family firm. Founder, “Papa Jack” Weil designed the first snap shirts when the market was the Rocky Mountain West. His son, Jack B. Weil, took over design and headed it for 50 years, spreading the brand from coast to coast. Steve Weil, the third generation, took over design from his father, updating the look and fit, and developed the world market from Europe to Japan. The current designs are inspired by those of prior generations, ranging from fine Pima cotton dress shirts to others with flamboyant vintage embroidery.
Rockmount shirts made their way to Hollywood and have been worn in countless movies by stars such as: Elvis, Clark Gable, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, Heath Ledger and Nicholas Cage. Rock stars also favor Rockmount, including Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie. Ronald Reagan was also a fan. The company is based in downtown Denver’s LoDo district. Their 1909 historic landmark building at 1626 Wazee Street houses the Rockmount flagship store and museum.
