Where Wood Meets Steel’s owner, Ryan Dirksen, first started building furniture in his small San Francisco apartment. This hobby developed into a full-fledged passion in 2001 when Dirksen moved to Denver and expanded his knowledge of wood and metal-craft. He began incorporating steel and other materials into his furniture designs in order to create pieces that are unique and functional. In 2006, he officially established his business here in Denver.
Where Wood Meets Steel prides itself in using locally sourced and sustainable materials whenever possible. By working closely with local tree companies, they are able to acquire material that would otherwise be discarded, turning it into a timeless design. Where Wood Meets Steel has collected an impressive inventory of unusual wood slabs and lumber processed from salvaged trees. They have also acquired several specimens of felled trees from their travels and beyond. By working within the parameters set by the nature of the tree, Dirksen’s designs turn flaw into character. Where Wood Meets Steel furniture can be seen at A.Line Boutique, Roth Sheppard Architects, Map My Fitness, and Core Power Yoga studios.
